Got Questions?
People are always curious about
the soap making process, and I love talking soap (without giving away trade
secrets, of course). So here is a list of the most frequent questions I'm asked.
If there is something you would like to know, feel free to email me at the
address below:
How does natural handmade soap differ from commercially made soap?
My handmade soap is made using the 'cold-process' method, in other words
it's made from scratch at low temperatures. These moisture rich bars retain all
of the natural glycerin. Commercial soap manufacturers remove this glycerin and
sell on the secondary market. Glycerin is a natural humectant, which helps your
skin stay exceptionally smooth, clean, and moisturized. Many commercial
soaps contain inexpensive ingredients such as animal tallow (yuk!), which can
clog pores and aggravate eczema, or detergents, which can leave skin feeling
dry. My customers comment on how incredibly soft and smooth Soap Goddess® soap
makes their skin feel. I promise you once you try our handmade soap, you will
never want to use commercial soap again! Keep in mind that not all handmade soap
is the same. At Soap Goddess® we pride ourselves in using only the highest
quality oils. Soap Goddess® soaps are made from premium ingredients such as
cold pressed oils, pure essential oils, and herbs.
Do you make your soap with sodium hydroxide?
Absolutely! All bar soaps are made using sodium hydroxide, no exceptions.
Soap is made by mixing an acid and a base to produce soap. The acid are your
oils, and your base is the sodium hydroxide. Through the magic of chemistry, no
sodium hydroxide remains in the final bars at the end of the curing process. All
that remains are pure, gentle bars of soap.
What is the difference between cold-process soaps, and melt and pour
(glycerin) soap?
At Soap Goddess® we make only cold-process soap, from scratch, for the
simple reason that we feel it is 'hands-down' the most superior type of soap.
Although melt and pour glycerine soaps are currently very popular, many people
find them to be extremely drying to the skin. (Melt and pour base routinely
contains alcohol, propolyne glycol or similar substance.). Melt and Pour soaps
are made from a base that is actually factory produced, purchased by the block,
melted down and poured into molds, and sold as "handmade soap". Soap
Goddess® crafts handmade soap in the true sense of the word, from scratch!
Pure food grade olive oil, coconut oil, palm, palm kernel, and soy oils are hand
stirred into each and every batch of Soap Goddess® Soap. We then enrich each
batch with other nourishing oils like sweet almond oil, hemp oil, shea butter
and mango butter. Visit our handmade soap
descriptions for details. You will immediately feel the difference our high
quality bars makes to your skin. Experience earth-friendly, luxurious handmade
soap at its finest!
Is your soap "tearless"?
As is the case with all real soap, our soap is not
"tearless". Care must be taken not to get in the eyes.
Common Sense Precautions:
*As with any product that touches the skin, please discontinue use if irritation
develops. Any product, even when made with the most natural, gentle ingredients can
